Ravenwood Riding Academy

‍ ‍Welcome to Ravenwood Riding Academy

Tucked away in a peaceful corner of the countryside, Ravenwood Riding Academy is more than just a riding school—it’s a community where riders of all ages and disciplines come together to explore the transformational world of horsemanship. Here, the psychology of the horse meets the timeless wisdom of ancient European traditions, with a special focus on classical dressage, jumpers/hunters, 4h, western, horsemanship and pleasure riding. Our approach goes beyond technique, transforming the riding experience into a journey of connection, balance, and mutual growth between horse and rider. A partnership not a domination. Ravenwood is a safe haven for all the horses in our program as well as every person who steps foot on this property . We are interested in the best plan of action for the horse and rider as a team working and growing together.

‍ ‍Our Mission

At Ravenwood, we believe that true horsemanship is not just about mastering technique—it’s about cultivating a deep and lasting connection with the horse. By honoring the principles of classical dressage we take they’re teaching and ally it to the modern American disciplines of English, Jumpers, Eventing, Pleasure riding. We aim to create harmony between rider and horse, a balance that reflects the grace and rhythm of poetry in motion.

‍ ‍Why Classical Dressage Foundations?

Classical dressage is more than a riding style; it’s a form of physical therapy for the horse, promoting strength, balance, and longevity. Through centuries-old methods refined by European masters, we focus on:

• Developing the horse’s natural movement with precision and care.

• Encouraging relaxation, suppleness, and strength in a way that honors their anatomy.

• Ensuring the rider’s posture and position complement the horse’s movements for true synergy.

This harmonious interaction not only refines the horse’s athletic potential but also deepens the emotional bond between horse and rider.

‍ ‍What We Teach

Psychology of the Horse: Understanding how a horse thinks, feels, and communicates is at the heart of what we do. We equip riders with tools to recognize and respect their horse’s individuality, fostering trust and mutual understanding.

Balance and Symbiosis: Through mindful training, we help riders achieve the perfect balance between themselves and their horse. This balance allows bothu partners to move as one, creating effortless communication through every stride.

Timeless Traditions: We honor ancient European practices that emphasize the art of riding as both a discipline and a form of self-expression. These methods, rooted in respect for the horse, remain relevant and transformative today.

The Horses of Ravenwood

At Ravenwood, our horses are family—and family is forever. Every horse who joins our program is given a lifelong home within our sanctuary. We do not sell our program horses. Each one is promised the opportunity to live out their full life here, surrounded by care, respect, and purpose.

Our herd is raised and maintained in a way that honors the natural life of a horse as closely as possible. They live outside with 24/7 turnout, free to roam, graze, and connect with one another as a true herd. Their lifestyle is rooted in simplicity and wellness—they are fed an organic, GMO-free diet, with access to grass or hay at all times. Food is never restricted, allowing them to live and nourish themselves the way nature intended.

We believe in minimal interference and maximum respect for their natural systems. Our horses do not wear blankets or unnecessary gear, trusting their bodies to regulate naturally. In the warmer months, they do enjoy the added comfort of fly boots to help keep them at ease.

Every horse at Ravenwood is barefoot. Through mindful hoof care and proper management, we’ve supported our entire herd in transitioning out of shoes—resulting in stronger hooves, healthier movement, and horses that are sounder than ever.

Our riding program plays an essential role in the lives of our horses. Having a purpose keeps them engaged, balanced, and connected. Many of our riding horses also serve as equine therapy partners, offering powerful support to the individuals they work with. These horses are intuitive, willing, and deeply attuned—forming meaningful partnerships that go far beyond riding alone.

At Ravenwood, our horses are more than part of a program—they are the heart of everything we do. They are teachers, healers, and lifelong companions, living in a sanctuary that honors who they truly are.

About our horses

Our horses are either donated to us, rescued or purchased as foals. Many of them have some sort of trauma from earlier in their life. Often their previous owners couldn’t train them or manage them. The foals here are trained and raised by the staff here at ravenwood farms. We help them develop, we train them, and nourish them. We invest a lot of time and effort to help our horses feel safe and develop the necessary behavioral skills to thrive on our farm. Some horses have been with us for decades. Skippy is the horse Dawn had growing up. Our horses have helped thousands of children and adults. This is why we always say that ravenwood farms is where people and horses thrive together. We help them trust people again, we help them become comfortable at our farm and in turn they help our community.
